Ionia Sentinel Standard - Sept. 2009


Richard Lee, age 54, of Ithaca, passed away Thursday, Sept. 17, 2009 at Gratiot 
Medical Center in Alma.

Richard was born June 2, 1955 in Lansing, the son of Robert E. and Kathryn 
(Schaub) Lee. He graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in criminal justice and 
business management, working as a Corrections Officer for over 20 years. 
Richard was currently employed as a Sergeant with the Ionia Correctional 
Facility and previously with St. Louis Correctional Facility.

Richard is survived by his daughter, Elisabeth lee of Ithaca, two 
grandchildren, stepfather, Robert L. Bennett of Alma and two sisters, Mary 
Geopfert of Alma and Terri (Jim) Bender of Ontario, Canada.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Susan Bennett and a brother, 
Edward Lee.

Funeral services and interment will be held Wednesday, Sept. 23 at 1 p.m. at 
Coe Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday, Sept. 21 at Lux-Moody-
Wolfel Funeral Home in Alma from 6-8 p.m. and Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. 
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Dearborn Association.
