George was born on April 13, 1919 in Ionia County, the son of Fred and Grace Sprague Lehman. During World War II, he was stationed in Alaska and received the Bronze Star for the Aleutian Campaign. He later worked at Gibson's, retiring in 1976. He attended Shiloh Community Church. He was well known in Belding as the "radio man" for his ability to repair radios, coaster wagons and bicycles. Because George was a bachelor, his mother made sure that he always had a Sunday dinner consisting of all the fixin's. Upon her death, his sister Caroline carried on the tradition. All who knew George also knew that the local restaurants such as Hearald's, Millies and McDonalds were important to him. He enjoyed many hours spent there with friends and acquaintances drinking coffee and sharing countless stories, which he later shared with family during their many gatherings. As his health declined, George required placement in long term care. At that point, his sister Caroline continued to care for her brother with countless trips to Greenville for visits, the delivery of cookies, crackers and scenic return trips to the many places they lived in Ionia County while growing up. George will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. His simple demeanor and lifestyle will always be cherished, tendered and deeply missed by his sister Caroline, niece Sherry and great niece Kristina. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Kathleen Rowley and two brothers; Russell and Leo. George is survived by his sister, Caroline Smith of Belding; brother and sister-in-law, Elden and Jane Lehman of Stanton and many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding with Pastor Kendall Harger officiating. Interment will follow in Palo Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to Make a Wish Foundation or the Long Term Care Unit Activities Fund.
