Leigh was born in Oswego, N. Y., November 18, 1847 and departed this life in Lake Odessa, May 5, 1920, aged 72 years, 5 months and 17 days. When but a child seven years of age he moved with his parents to Union City, Mich. where he lived until at the age of 17 he enlisted in the Union army with the Custer Brigade in the west. He was a member of the local V. O. Bretz post of the G. A. R.. After the war he resided in various places in the far west and in Michigan, until in 1892 he was married to Henrietta Penning at Troy, N. Y. with whom lived happily at Sunfield and Charlotte where she died over 20 years ago On September 12, 1900, he was married to Eva Bretz, who has been a faithful and dutiful wife. They resided about 10 years in Sunfield and the past 10 years in Lake Odessa. About three years ago he suffered a stroke of paralysis which rendered him practically helpless and made him a constant care. Through all these months he has been very patient and hopeful ever looking on the bright side. One daughter by his first wife, Miss Edith who is teaching school at Shelby, one sister, Mrs. W. S. Barrett of Jackson and the wife are the immediate relatives who greatly mourn his departure, together with many friends and acquaintances. The funeral was held at the home Friday afternoon. Rev.
