May 19, 1905 OBITUARY Anna Burns Leigh, widow of Chas. W. Leigh was born November 7 1847, in Camdem, New York, where she lived until her marriage, on April 7th 1866. The first three years of her married life were spent a Union City, Mich. They then moved to Sunfield township and settled on the farm that has since been their home. The home which by her untiring energy and self sacrifice, has blossomed from a wilderness; the home where her first children were born, the home where her sweet influence created an atmosphere of love, the home where no chance acquaintance of friend, (She had no enemies) were ever turned away empty handed from her door. Her home was a harbor for the homeless, a sort of refuge where she gave of herself without stint. None knew her but to love her, none named her but too praise. This pen is too feeble to portray how much she has missed and mourned for her life companion since February 27th 1898. She could not grieve the inmates of her home by uttering any complaint, by any outward grieving, while her heart was breaking. Perhaps the strongest attribute of her nature was the love for her children. To them she gave herself unreservedly, uncomplainingly. The memory of this will ever aide with them as a requiem of the past. She built her own monument, a monument of love and service. Her disease was a complicated stomach difficulty which developed too rapidly to get under control. Her spirit passed from life Easter day, April 23, 1905. The end was perfect peace. Whom of us that new her sorrow but could anticipate the joy of the reunion with her sainted husband. The funeral was held from her late residence, that home where she was ever a bright and shining light the Wednesday following her death, at two o'clock, conducted by Rev. Lash, who read at the close of his impressive discourse a touching poem by Edith Leigh, the wife of her son, Walter, The internment was in the beautiful Lakeside cemetery, by the side of the husband of her youth, the father of her children, he for whom she had so mourned, but at last was re- united.
