She was a splendid character and a valuable asset t her home, church and social circles, always wearing a smile when greeting her friends. She will be greatly missed especially from the W.R.C., where she was honored as being the daughter of the man for whom the G.A.R. of this place was named. OBITUARY Eva Bretz was born AUg. 24, 1861 at Odessa township,Ionia County, ad departed this life Jan. 20, 1921 at Lake Odessa, aged 59 years, 4 mo, 26 days. She was the daughter of Valentine and Sarah A.Bretz. Other children of the family, her brothers and sister, are David A.Bretz of Hersey, Mich., Orson G. Bretz of Hillshore, Ore, Ruth S. Buckborough of Mt.Pleasant, Mich., and Don C.Bretz of Fort North, Texas. On September 12, 1900 she was united in marriage with Spencer M.Leigh, with whom she shared the joys and cares of life for the past 20 years in Sunfield and Lake Odessa until his passing away after a prolonged illness last May. She was a lifelong member of the Methodist church; also a member of the Eastern Star and Woman's Relief Corps, in which latter organization she held offices of trust. She was a genuinely good woman and faithful Christian, especially exemplifying in her life the gentler and inner Christian virtues of faithfulness, meekness, patience and kindness. She will be especially missed by the friends and relatives who stood nearest to her and knew her true worth. While she has been in somewhat feeble health for some time, her passing away so suddenly was nevertheless a great surprise. Up to her last conscious moments she bore clear testimony to her unfailing trust in her Redeemer whom she had served faithfully for so man years. Besides the relatives already mentioned, she leaves a devoted step-daughter,Miss Edith Leigh, a teacher in the public schools of Boyne City, Michigan, who with the departed shared in the care and anxiety of the father's long illness, and has made her home with the mother.
