All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/mi/mifiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Marilyn Ransom mlnransom@chartermi.net May 17, 2011, 7:38 pm The Portland Observer, Thursday, December 16, 1915 Miss Minnie Leik, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Leik, who, two months ago today, in a violent fit of insanity, saturated her clothing with kerosene and set fire to it in an attempt to end her life and thereby escape commitment to the Traverse City hospital, died from her burns at 4:30 Wednesday afternoon. Miss Leik was 23 years of age and was born in Westphalia township, coming to Portland with her parents about three years ago. She is survived by her father and mother, a sister, Mrs. Mary Wixie, of Williamsbridge, N.Y., and four brothers, William and John, of Portland, and Henry and Alfred, of Seattle, Wash. The funeral services are to be held at St. Patrick church Saturday morning. Rev. John A. Koelzer will officiate and burial will take place in Portland cemetery.
