Sept. 18, 2018 EUGENE LEMKE, 80 Eugene "Gene" Delbert Lemke age 80 of Ionia, MI. passed away September 14, 2018. He was born on April 26, 1938 in Ionia the son of Delbert and ruby (Babcock) Lemke. He married Leatrice Lange on May 23, 1959. Gene retired at the age of 72 as a correctional officer; he worked for Mitchell-Bentley, General Tire, Chrysler, Diamond Rio, A. O. Smith, Wright-Way Lumber, and Jones' Meat Market. he worked as a Draftsmen, and an Engineer. Gene was on the Palo School board for 13 years and served as the president for some time. He enjoyed farming, refereeing basketball, hunting, racing homing pigeons, he was also inducted into the Ionia Hall of Fame for Football. He loved spending time with his loving family. gene was a member of the Zion Methodist church in Ionia. Surviving are his wife of 59 years Leatrice, children Kimberly Dora of Ionia, Kurt (Stephanie) Lemke of Alabama, Kendal (Lynda) Lemke of Portland; grandchildren C. J. (Chaz) Ring, Marty (Ashlee) Lemke, Ben (Kristen) Lemke, Marcus (Katie) Lemke, Emily (Ryan) Kalman, Tony Lemke, Nate Dora, Jeremy (Nicole) Easlick; 16 great-grandchildren; sister Kathy Young of Ionia and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Clare Lemke, brother-in-law Fred Young and son-in-law Dennis Dora. Funeral services for Gene will be held at the lake Funeral Home in Ionia on Monday, September 17th at 1:00 PM with Lionel Haskins Jr. officiating. Interment Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitations will be Saturday fro 4-7 PM at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service (12-1). In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Great Lakes Hospice.
