He was born May 5, 1918 in Ionia, the son of Frank and Elizabeth Lemke. In April of 1937 he was married to Dorothy Nelson. Mr. Lemke was the founder of the Home Furnace Company of Ionia and was a former employee of the Peschke Packing Company of Ionia. He was a retired salesman. Mr. Lemke also was a navy veteran of World War II and a former Ionia City councilman. He was a charter member of the Lyons-Muir VFW No. 4646 and also was a member of the Military Order of Cootie Pup Tent No. 14. Mrs. Lemke lived in the Lyons-Muir area for the past 19 years. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; one son, William of St. John's; two daughters, Mrs. Janet Flannery of Muskegon and Ms. Cynthia Benedict of Woodard Lake; two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Ross of Holland lake and Mrs. Louis Grovier of Ionia; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild. One brother and one sister preceded him in death. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Hull Memorial Chapel with the Rev. J. William Sippola, of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lansing officiating. Burial will be in Muir Cemetery.
