MAN Oscar Lepard Hit by P.M. Train Monday Afternoon. Leaves Wife, Son and Two Daughters. Had Been at His Farm. Again another awful accident strikes one of Lake Odessa's quiet homes. Oscar Lepard left his home Monday morning for work around his farm which is in Campbell township. At about 4 o'clock he left for home and was instantly killed by a P.M. train consisting of an engine and caboose as he was about to cross a crossing three miles east of Clarksville. The horse was also instantly killed and thrown from the track. Mr.Lepard's body and the remains of the buggy remained on the pilot and were taken to Clarksville and Coronor B.J Boynton and Deputy Sheriff McKendry of Ionia Called. They arrived impaneled a jury consisting of F.N.Birchard, James Norcutt, J.W. Hershberger, L.M. Douglas, F.S. Phillips and N.W. Sturat. It was found every bone in Mr.Lepard's body were broken, but no bad lacerations. Undertaker Walter Wortley went for the body and took it to his undertaking rooms where it was made ready for burial. The funeral will be held at the Central Methodist church Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Mr. Lepard was a quiet home loving man, well attending his own affairs. He was a brother of Lafayette Lepard, Charles Lepard, Bert Lepard of Lake Odessa and Shirley Lepard of Grand Ledge and his sisters are Mrs.Joseph Wortley, Mrs.Flora Orndorff and Miss Allie Lepard, all of this place. OBITUARY Oscar E.Lepard was born in Attica, Seneca County, Ohio, on the sixteenth day of February, in the years 1856, and met his death on the third day of October, 1927. He was therefore 71 years, 7 months, and 17 days. When a child of six years he came to Michigan with h is parents and they settled on the farm in Odessa on which the West Odessa church now stands. He was united in marriage to Miss Alice Curtis on the 28th day of April in the year of 1878. Mr and Mrs Lepard began housekeeping on the farm in Campbell Township, where they lived until they moved to Lake Odessa eleven years ago. The fiftieth anniversary of their marriage would have occurred next April and they were already making plans for the celebration of half century of unusually happy married life. To Mr and Mrs Lepard were born two sons and two daughters. One son, Cecil, died at the age of six years. Mr.Lepard is survived by his devoted wife and the three children; Mrs Maud Dodson of Woodland; Mrs.Florence Gilliland of Campbell Township; and Hale, who lives on the old homestead. He also leaves four brothers and three sisters, all of whom live in this community, save Shirley Lepard, who lives in Grand Ledge; who together with the eight grandchildren mourn their loss. Mr. Lepard was a good man and true. He was quite retiring in his nature but ever faithful to his obligations. He was kind and devoted to all in every relationship of life.
