He had not been ill and had worked as usual Wednesday. Burial will be in Ionia, but funeral plans were still incomplete Thursday afternoon. Mr. Lepper was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Alden Lepper and was born in Ionia. His boyhood home was on Johnson street. He was a veteran of the Spanish-American war. He leaves his widow and 10 children, and three sisters, Mrs. Dorothy McGee, of Battle Creek; Mrs. J. O. Tuckett, of Detroit, and Mrs. Grace Wilson, of Ionia. In the days immediately following the Spanish-American war Mr. Lepper was a promising boxer in weight between 120 and 130 pounds, and with much ability. He made good progress in the professional game and was widely known throughout Michigan as one of its leading ring exponents. Probably no Ionia boxer ever attain the prominence in the game that “Kid” Lepper did in his price, when he gained a reputation for a fast, skillful fighter, and one over some of the best in his class. Following retirement from the boxing game, he followed his profession of a barber in Ionia for many years until leaving here for Battle Creek. About 25 years ago he attempted a comeback as a fighter, and was matched with Tommy Dougherty at the Ionia armory. Dougherty, a much younger man, and then at his peak, ended the Ionian’s ring aspirations in the second round of the scheduled 10-round bout.
