John F. Lesky, aged 80, of Ionia, passed away Friday, July 15, 2005 at his 
home.  He was born September 7, 1924 in Ionia the son of William and Agnes 
(Abels) Lesky.  He attended Ionia Public Schools before entering the Navy, 
where he served from 1942 to 1947 during WWII.

He married Arla Rusnell October 8, 1949 in Ionia.  He worked for the State of 
Michigan until retiring after 30 years.  He retired from the Michigan National 
Guard in 1984 with the rank of Colonel.  He was a member of the Ionia VFW Post 
3275, Saranac American Legion Post 0175, Ionia Elks Lodge 548 and the Retired 
Officers Association.  He was a lifelong member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic 
Church in Ionia.  He was an avid golfer.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years Arla of Ionia.  Children Steve 
and Susan Lesky of Holland, Phillip Lesky of Keego Harbor, Susan and Terry Long 
of Ionia. 6 grandchildren Steffany, Marissa and Matthew Lesky, Leslie, Curtis 
and Kevin Wilbanks, Sisters Florence Hildebrandt, Edna Gommeson, Anna Langdon, 
Mary and William Seymour, Phyllis Cahill, Donna Schueller and Margaret and Bob 
Bennett.  Many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Albert, Phillip, William and 
James and sister Dorothy and 1 grandson John M. Wilbanks.

Funeral Services for John will be held Tuesday 11 a.m. at SS Peter & Paul 
Catholic Church with Rev. Mell Fox officiating.  Interment Sunset Memorial 
Gardens.  Visitation will be on Monday 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. 
at the Lake Funeral Home in Ionia.  Anyone wishing may make memorial 
contributions to American Cancer Society, Ionia Area Hospice or SS Peter & Paul 
Catholic Church.
