Leslie, 85, 924 Hackett St., Ionia, died Sunday at his home. He was born March 20, 1900 in Milan, the son of Irving and Phebe Leslie. He worked for Mitchell Bentley as a patternmaker for 48 years, retiring in 1965. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ionia and the Blue Lodge. He was a veteran of World War I, serving with the United States Navy, and was a member of the WWI Barracks. He was a charter member of the Ionia American Legion. He was a member of the Order of the Eastern Stars, where he was a past patron. Survivors include his wife, Verona; a son, Gayle of Ionia; a stepson, Wayne Kammers, of Ionia; a stepdaughter, Pauline Harwood of Ionia; two grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, five step grandchildren and four step great-grandchildren. Two sisters preceded him in death. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. from the First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Timothy Gillette officiating. Burial will be in the Easton Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives at the Roetman Funeral Home today from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A memorial has been established to the First Baptist Church or the Masonic Building Fund, and envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
