Jan. 24, 1935 Irving A. Leslie, 65 years of age, died at his home in Ionia Friday afternoon following an illness of heart disease. Funeral services were held at Ionia Sunday afternoon with Rev. John H. Stewart officiating. The Portland F. and A.M. lodge, to which Mr. Leslie had been a member for many years, had charge of the services, with eight of his brothers members, acting as bearers. They were R.W. Dawdy, F.L. Jenkins, O.S. Rice, Ray Stewart, George Fishell, Peter Trierweiler, Fred England and Robert Lockwood. Mr. Leslie was born in Buffalo, N.Y., in 1869, and at the age of 30 years was united in marriage to Pheobe Sickles, in Buffalo. After coming to Michigan they spent a year in Milan and then came to Portland where Mr. Leslie was employed by the Portland Milling company and later by the village as engineer at the water works. Nineteen years ago the family moved to Ionia where he had been employed as engineer at the Safford manufacturing plant for 12 years and at the Michigan reformatory for the past seven years. Besides the widow he is survived by three children, Paul Leslie, of Ionia; Mrs. John Colizzi and Mrs. Vera McLean, both of Charlotte. He was a member and past master of the Portland Masonic order and member of the Ionia Moose lodge.
