Lester at her home on East Main street of apoplexy. She had been sick since Jan. 30 with a bad cold, which developed into pneumonia, but continued to improve and was not thought to be dangerously sick until that morning when she suffered a second congestive chill. At noon she was very low and passed away at the above hour. Mrs. Lester has long been a resident of Ionia and had many warm friends. She was an active member of St. John’s Episcopal church and her friends deplore her sudden demise. She leaves two daughters Mrs. Ida Abbott of this city and Mrs. Frank Fox of East Tawas, and also her mother. The Funeral of Mrs. Lester Appropriate Remarks by Rev. Dr. Thomas Many Floral Offerings. The funeral of Mrs. E.L. Lester was held Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the residence and was unusually largely attended, the house being crowded. The remarks of Dr. W. H. Thomas were both eloquent and appropriate, and Mrs. C.W. Parsons, Mrs. E.R. Bailey, Mr. W.H. Maxwell and Miss Isa Vosper furnished music. The remains were borne to their last resting place ty T.G. Stevenson, J.B. Chaddock, Fred C. Ives and James Scully. There was a large representation of the members of Queen Esther chapter. They met at Dr. Grant’s and attended as an organization. There was a profusion of flowers, the casket being covered, showing the high esteem in which the deceased was held. Panel callas, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Montgomery; panel heliotrope, allium and violets, Mesdames Wm. Brewer and Chas. Bigelow; wreath of white roses and other flowers, Mr. and Mrs. F.W. Stevenson; panel of easter lilies and merinet roses, Mr. and Mrs. A.W. Merriam and Mr. and B.L. Comstock and others; bunch of bride roses, Mrs. A.W. Merriam; palm and lilies, plants, Mrs. Maxted and others; smilax, hyacinths and lilies, Mrs. Abbott; choice bunch of hyacinths in colors, Mr. and Mrs. O.S. Wood; large star of choicest roses, letters “O.E.S.” order of Eastern Star; wreath of roses and Roman hyacinths, from West End club; panel of white carnations and maiden hair ferns, Mr. and Mrs. W.K. Wilson; panel of bride and bridesmaid roses, A.T. Montgomery; panel of callas, Blanche Gibsone. The flowers came from Thornton’s and were most beautiful.
