Letts, age 67, of Ionia, formerly of Lake City, passed away at his home Monday, July 25, 2005. Mr. Letts was born in Manton to Garth and Opal (Lamb) Letts on December 31, 1937. He married Roberta A. Meeuwes in 1968. Sam was very proud of his country and served in the US Army for 12 years, including 3 ½ years in Vietnam. He received the Good Conduct Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal. Mr. Letts served as a member of the National Guard for 2 years. He was a devoted husband and loving father. He was a member of the American Legion Post #300 in Lake City. He worked in construction and was a long distance truck driver for Leaseway Auto Carriers for 21 years. Mr. Letts is survived by his loving wife Roberta; children, Samuel Letts Jr. of Lake City; Russell Letts of Lake City, Sheryl (Dean) Root of Lake City; Tim (Janalee) Letts of Ionia and Tammy (Ron) Howell of Evert, Washington; brother- in-law, Bill McMaster of Lake City; sister, Linda (Ken) Hand of Waterford; mother-in-law, Lillian Wood; grandchildren, Wayne, Tiffany, Joey, Kayla, Cody, Devin, Lance and Brandon; great grandchildren, Alexis, Alyssa and DJ and special friends, Robert Root of Lake City and Jimmie Huber of Ionia. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister Esther McMaster. Graveside services will be at the Lake City Cemetery with the American Legion Post #300 Thursday, July 28, 2005 at 2 p.m. Memorial contributions can be made to the Ionia Hospice.
