Portland Observer, 18 Feb 1879

Charles Lewis was instantly killed while loading logs at Dan. T. Fargo’s camp 
near Sheridan last Tuesday, a log rolled over the sleigh and fell upon his 
head, crushing it fearfully and causing death in three minutes.  He leaves a 
wife and three children.  His remains were interred at Ionia Saturday.  He was 
an exemplary citizen.
