Lewis, died at his home in this village, Monday, May 30, at 1 p.m. after a lingering illness, at the age of 72 years and 9 months. Mr. Lewis was the son of Mr. and Mrs. David Lewis, and was born in Ohio in 1832. He came to Michigan with his parents when but a small child and settled at Coldwater. From there they moved to Ionia, where they lived several years and where the father died. The family then moved to Saranac where a few months later the mother too, was taken, leaving a family of nine children which was broken up and scattered. Andrew went to live with a family in South Boston. In 1861 he married Adeline Chase of Kalamazoo and they made themselves a home in South Boston, where they resided until eleven years ago, when Mr. Lewis’ health failed and he came to this village and bought their present home which he has made beautiful. Of the eleven children born to Mr. and Mrs. Lewis six survive: Royal, Fred and Burton of South Boston, Arcie D., and Celia and Eva of this village. Besides these are left the wife, one brother and three sisters, Solomon of Wisconsin, Mesdames Sarah McGath, Fidelia Case of Saranac and Miss Nancy Lewis of this village. Three brothers lost their lives in their country’s service in the Civil War. Funeral services were held at the residence this morning conducted by Rev. Chas. Nease and the interment took place in the Saranac cemetery.
