Aug. 13, 2017 RICHARD THORWALD LIEBUM Houghton Lake Richard Thorwald Liebum, 80, of Houghton lake entered into eternal rest on Friday August 4, 2017 at Munson Healthcare Grayling Hospital with his loving family by his side. Dick was the ultimate family man and role model for his wife, children and grandchildren. His family looked to him for Guidance and he took it upon himself to ensure their needs were met. Although he loved hunting, fishing and boating, his true love was spending time with his family. Friends of Dick were treated as family and those that had a chance to meet Dick, remember him for his vibrant personality, sense of humor and over all compassion for others. He had the ability to light up a room and talk to anyone at any time or place - a rare, yet special trait that many admired him for. Dick was born on January 27, 1937 in Lansing, Michigan. He graduated from Lansing Eastern high School and served as a PFC E3 in the Army for the 487th Medical Co. out of Ft. Hood. On May 6, 1961, Dick married to Delores A. De Ryke. Dick spent many years in printing sales for Speaker-Hines-Thomas of Lansing. The family had a cabin at Houghton Lake for many years and the couple moved from Portland to Houghton Lake in 2002. Surviving Mr Liebum are his loving wife of 56 years, Delores A. Liebum of Houghton Lake; two daughters, Michelle Liebum Cronin of Portland, and Angela (William) Lear of Portland; four grandchildren, Alex Lear, Thomas (Ali) Cronin, Meredith Cronin, and Alan Lear. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Eleanor (Cooper) Liebum and brother, Lynford Liebum. Private family Celebration of Life Services for Richard Thorwald Liebum will be conducted. memorial contributions in memory of Richard are asked to be directed to Munson Manor Hospitality house, 1220 Medical Campus Dr., Traverse City, Mi. 49684.
