Scarcely had the remains of Mrs. D.H. Warren, mother of Mrs. Lindley, been lowered into a grave in Portland cemetery before Leonard Lindley, a brother of Alonzo, breathed his last. Christmas day was a sorrowful one in the Lindley home because the remains of Mrs. Warren lay there awaiting burial, and the same heart throbs are felt there today, when nothing but rejoicing should welcome the birth of the new year. Leonard Lindley, a resident of Portland for the past 23 years, died Monday afternoon at his home on the west side of a complication of diseases. Although his health failed him about 11 years ago, at which time he was obliged to quit work, his condition did not become critical until about two weeks prior to his death, when he was taken to his bed. Mr. Lindley was born in Crawford county, Ohio, Oct. 4, 1844, and at the age of 10 years he moved with his parents to Sebewa township. On January 2, 1864, he enlisted in the 27th regiment of Michigan Volunteers, and served until the close of the war. On his 24th birthday he was married to Laura Stevens, who, with a son Glenn Lindley, of DeWitt, survives him. For years Mr. Lindley conducted the local rural delivery system but was obliged to give this up when his health failed. His recovery had been a matter of doubt for several days. Besides the widow and son deceased is survived by a sister, Mrs. Wallace Spencer and two brothers Alonzo and Lorenzo of this city. Burial at Portland Cemetery.
