A few weeks ago his daughter, Lola Lindsley and his father, Noah Lindsley, died following illness with influenza. Mr. Lindsley also was a sufferer from the ailment but recovered enough so that he was able to be about. Grief stricken his recovery was hampered and friends marked the deep depression which seemed to settle ever more fully on the man who was known to all as cheerful quiet and kindly. Suddenly he became a prey to dementia. He showed violent tendencies and, at last, was taken to Ionia, where he was given temporary treatment at the Ionia state hospital after the sheriff’s department found him too seriously unbalanced for them to handle. Hydropathic treatments were used at the hospital in an effort to calm the torn nerves and it was thought he was responding to the treatment. Since the hospital here is for criminal insane it was decided to remove Mr. Lindsley to Traverse City. His condition continued to grow worse there. Although in his normal condition he was quiet and kindly, he became garroulous and hard to handle even showing some tendency to become abusive to those who were caring for him. The specialists at the hospital realized the case was one having its origin in difficulty more physical than grief alone. Examination then proved the influenza germs had attached the brain and it was known recovery was beyond hope. During all of his life in the community he was looked up to and respected as a citizen, friend and neighbor and was always known as a splendid husband and father. He was liberal in his support of worthy projects and always generous in his response to appeals for financial aid for causes deserving support. He was faithful in his support of the church and was a deacon to the Portland Baptist church from which the funeral was held Sunday afternoon. He also had served as master of the Ionia County Pomona Grange and was highly respected by Grangers through the county. He is survived by his wife and one daughter, Miss Ruth Lindsley, who recently was chosen as valedictorian of her graduating class in the Portland High School. He also leaves a brother Lloyd Lindsley of Portland and a sister Mrs. Glenn Hartwell Pontiac.
