The funeral for Carl Lindsley, who died in Traverse City Thursday morning 
after having been a patient at the institution two weeks, will be held at the 
home near Sebewa corners Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock with Rev. John Stewart, 
of the Portland Baptist church, under whom Mr. Lindsley had served as deacon, 
in charge of the services.  Burial will be in the Sebewa cemetery.

Broken under the strain caused by the death of his father, Noah Lindsley, and 
that of his daughter, Lola Lindsley, who were flu victims within a few days of 
each other, and ill because of an attack of the same ailment, Mr. Lindsley, 
the man who had contributed to the support of every worthy cause in both the 
rural and village communities, lost his reason and , after receiving treatment 
at the Ionia State hospital, was later taken to Traverse City hospital, where 
he died.  Three generations thus have been stricken with death in less than a 
month, leaving his widow and daughter Ruth to face the grief that has more 
than been tripled by Carl Lindsley’s dementia and death.  Miss Ruth Lindsley 
is valedictorian of the Portland high school graduating class.  She is 16 
years of age.

Mr. Lindsley was born in Isabella county and had lived in Ionia county for the 
past 12 years.  Since living in this county he had served as Pomona grange 
master and the Portland Baptist church as an officer and served them well.  A 
brother, Lloyd, of Portland, and a sister, Mrs. Glenn Hartwell, of Pontiac, 
also survive him.
