Tom lived in Ronald Township, Ionia MI all his life.He started Listerman and Sons Excavation in 1967, employing his 3 sons, as well as other members of his extended family throughout the years. Just a few of his many excavation projects were the Ionia Sentinel Standard building, the State Rest area in Grayling, hundreds of area drain fields, driveways and building sites, as well as a number of jobs in state prisons throughout Michigan. His son Aaron, and later Tom, owned and operated Nickelplate Store on Nickelplate Road for a number of years. He was a master truck driver, builder, black powder enthusiast, mechanic, and farmer; talents which he taught to his sons throughout their lives.One of his greatest passions was deer hunting. His thoughts and actions regarding the deer management on his beloved 123-acre farm was well known throughout the community; He was adamant in his opinions with his actions proving his successes. He loved the stock tractor pulls at the local fairs and Ionia farm power.He looked forward to camping and riding in the Pigeon River State Forest among the elk herd on his beloved horses,Taxman and UT with his wife, Bonnie and her sister Jeannie and their friends at least twice a year. He was a past contributor and donor to the Ionia Free Fair, a former member of the Ionia County Hunting and Fishing Club, and current member of Michigan Trail Riders Association. Surviving Tom are is wife, Bonnie (Beach), brother Larry (Janet)Listerman, sister-in-law Terri Listerman all of Ionia, sister-in-law Jeannie Beach of Muir, son-in-law Scott Gorby, sons Westley (Diane Sayers) Listerman, Trent (Annette) Listerman, Aaron (Angie) Listerman all of Ionia, Grandchildren include Sarah (Randy) Schmid, Morgan (Ron) Schmid, Garth (Sarah) Gorby all of Ionia, Bronwyn(Mike) Whitcomb of Clarksville, Emily Listerman of Ionia, Ashley (Nate) Doty of Muir, Brenton (Kirsten) Listerman, A.Jay(Emma Tomas) Listerman, and Owen (Angelica Barnhart) Sayers all of Ionia. His great-grandchildren are Lauryn, Allyson and Jaysen Schmid, Kaylee, Bryce, Carson Schmid, Garrett and Colton Gorby, Kelliary Whitcomb, Elanore Listerman, Avaeya, Addison and Graylee Listerman. Tom was preceded in death by his mother and father, June and Bill (Francis) Listerman, brother Charles "Chuck" Listerman, his beloved daughter Kelli Gorby, neighbor Mike Butler and riding buddy Steve Higbee. A Celebration of life and memorial will be held at North Plains Cemetery at 11 AM on August 12th for family, many friends, neighbors and business associates wishing to pay respects to Tom's memory. Cremation has taken place and arrangements made through Lake Funeral Home. In lieu of Flowers, contributions may be made to the Ronald Township Fire Department.
