December 16, 2023 LISTERMAN Larry Francis Listerman, 81, of Ionia passed away on December 8, 2023 in the comfort of his own home surrounded by his loving wife and three children. Larry, a true Ionian, was born on June 30, 1942 in Ionia,MI and graduated from Ionia High School in 1960. Larry grew up in hi longtime home north of Ionia with his parents, Francis and June Listerman, and two brothers, Chuck and Tom, who all have preceded him in death.As an avid, hardworking, young man, Larry grew up dairy farming, working at Chrysler of Lyons, Peschke's, and owning a service station, H & L Gulf. And in 1963, Larry committed the rest of his life and love to this high school sweetheart,Janet Sprague, and later in 1964 they happily welcomed Jennifer Scheurer and Chad Listerman, and completed their family of five. As their family thrived, farming the land and raising cattle, Larry led a family that's passion for agriculture, community, and other's stretched across the county. Larry's dedicated his life to Ionia, and 31 years a a member on the Ionia Township Board and his role as Supervisor, to his commitment on the Ionia Free Fair Board for 15 years.Larry's passion for the Ionia Free Fair showed through in hi character every day. From countless hours spent progressing the fair, and his integral role in building the 4-H's new arena. Larry was a constant, joyful presence seen riding around on the golf cart heckling his friends and making new ones. At age 60, Larry retired from farming and set out to help his son at CL Trucking & Excavating by being his go-to loader operator at Keifer Pit.Larry was someone who could dish it as well as take it, his joy in life was picking on someone to a point where he got pure pleasure out of their exasperation.The construction workers at CLTE and fellow farmers were his happiest target. Larry enjoyed cooking, shrimp and crab at Christmas, and also loved the occasional baking so he could give away the sweetest of treats. Larry cared about people. His family and is many friends will miss him deeply. We will always be reminded of him every day, in the Pepsi we drink, golf cart seen driving by, and any neon green hat we see bobbling in the crowd. Larry is survived by his wife Janet, children Jackie, Jenny, and Chad their spouses Kurt,Larry, and Laura, grandchildren Ryan, Lyndsee, Austin, Elizabeth, Colin,Cole, their spouses,Stephanie, Savannah, and Nick, as well as great grand- children Dominik, Bubba, Jacelynn, Alysa, Wade Wesson, and Paisley.A long with his sisters-in-law Terri Listerman, Bonnie Listerman, many nieces & nephews, cousins & longtime close friends; including care givers Gregg & Jody Garrison. And preceded in death by grandchildren Laurel,Keegan and Calli Scheurer. Larry will be missed greatly but we know he's happy to be visiting with his parents,Francis and June, brothers, Chuck and tom, in-laws, Tom and Alma Sprague, Don and Mary Gregory, brother-in-law, Wayne Sprague, and many great friends. In lieu of flowers, any contributions in Larry's name should be made out to the Ionia Free Fair foundation.
