Lowell Ledger, 25 Mar 1937

Elizabeth (Hershberger) Lite was born in Somerset Co., Pennsylvania, December
17, 1844 and died near Clarksville, Mich., Mar. 18, 1937, aged 92 years. 3
months, 1 day. 

On March 13, 1873 she was united in marriage to Lewis Lite, near Caledonia.  To
this union were born six children: John William, Noah, Mrs. Emeline Hefflebower,
Abraham, Mrs. Ella Overholt and Mrs. Mary Weaver.  Her husband preceded her in
death 23 years.  She leaves to mourn her departure, two daughters, Ella
Overholt, Clarksville, and Mary Weaver, Prescott, Mich., 20 grandchildren and 29
great-grandchildren; one niece, Lydia Karcher, Alto, Mich. and two nephews, Rev.
Simon Hershberger, Goltry, Okla. and Will Hershberger, Orlando, Fla. and many
relatives and friends.

She came to Michigan 71 years ago when she was 21 years old and has lived in the
community ever since, living with her daughter Ella the last 26 years. She was a
faithful member of the Mennonite Church for many years. She had exceptionally
good health, having almost a perfect attendance at the church services up to the
time of  her death, being present the last Sunday morning and attended a funeral
in the afternoon. 

Death was caused oy a blood clot on the heart, after which she lived only about
36 hours. She spoke often of her going home to be with her Lord, and the last
day prayed often for the Lord to come for her, being conscious to the very end.
 Grandmother was of that kindly, patient nature which endeared her to all who
came in contact with her.  She will be greatly missed in the home, in the church
and in the community.

Funeral services were held at the home March 21 by Bro. Sholten of the Brethren
church and at the Bowne Mennonite church by Bro. T.E. Schrock, assisted by Bro.
D.J. Johns.  Burial in the adjoining cemetery.
