At the age of two years he came to Palo with his parents where he resided and finished his school course. He then held a position in the butternut bank until September 17, 1917, when he entered the service of the United State for the World war, and on January 3, 1918, he sailed for France, one of 200 brave boys who went as a motor transport company. He was in La Havre, France, 17 months and there contracted tubercular trouble. After everything could be done at home, he went to Colorado to seek his health. His parents spent the winder of 1921-22 with him in Denver. On April 29, 1922, he was married to Grace Olive Crane, of Boulder, Colo. On October 15, 1922, Merle and his wife went by auto to Deming, New Mexico, where they remained till just before his death. On January 15 word came of Merle's serious condition, and at once his loving parents started to his bedside and were with him and Mrs. Merle Little to the last. On March 12, at Merle's request, Mrs. Merle and his parents started for Palo, and just before reaching Chicago on Wednesday morning, March 14, Merle passed away, aged 26 years, 11 months and five days. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife; Olive; father, mother and one sister, Mrs. Ted Sherwood, of Palo and a host of relatives and friends.
