Rudd of Berlin township and was largely attended. The spacious home was filled with relatives, business friends, Masonic brother and others who came to pay their respects to one they had known so long. The sermon was by the Berlin pastor, Rev. C. E. Thies, who preached a most excellent sermon and the music was by Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Goodemoot using favorite songs of the family. Mrs. Thos. Johnson accompanied on the piano. The Masonic order had charge of the services at the Letts cemetery, giving the ritualistic charge. Thus passes a man who has been said to have been worth $200,000 or more, a man who lived very plainly and most modestly. He enjoyed the fraternities to which he belonged and appreciated his friends. George Liverton was born in Devonshire, England on January 27, 1849, died March 6, at Lake Odessa in his seventy-eighth year. When he was three years of age his parents left England and settled in the state of New York where they lived for five years. In 1857 the family came to Michigan and settled on the homestead in Berlin township where Mr. Liverton spent the greater portion of his life. The death of his father occurred when George was in his seventeenth year, thus leaving him with the responsibility of caring for his mother and six small sisters. On the tenth day of December 1892 he was married to Grace Spenser of Grand Ledge who preceded him in death just thirteen years ago. Two sisters have also died; Mrs. Mary Anderson of Mt. Pleasant, and Mrs. Eliza Rudd of Berlin. He was always interested in the various organizations of the community, being a member of the Masonic order, the Eastern Star, Odd Fellow and Rebekahs. He was a man of unusual ability and untiring energy. These qualities made him a very successful business man. He leaves to mourn his death four sisters, Mrs. Grace Krauz of Portland, Mrs. Martha Jones of Aberdeen, Washington, Mrs. Ellen Bigelow of Grand Rapids, Mrs. Anna Rudd of Berlin, also a wide circle of friends among the farmers and business men of Ionia County. So passes one of the old residents of Ionia County, a man of industry, honesty, and thrift, whose life will always be a reminder to those of this generation who knew him, that success comes to him who plans with intelligence and toils with diligence. Card of Thanks We wish to thank all those who assisted in any way, also for the flowers sent at the time of the death of our brother, George Liverton.
