Stillman Livingston, of Shiloh, believed to be Ionia county’s oldest Civil war veteran died at his home there Tuesday at 10:00 o’clock, after a brief illness with pneumonia. Mr. Livingston was 86 years of age, and had been a resident of Ionia county since 1876, and had lived on his farm near Shiloh since 1877 continuously. For a year prior to moving to Shiloh Mr. Livingston lived at Muir. Up until the time when he could look squarely into the face of death Mr. Livingston maintained his courage and his fortitude. He refused to take to his bed until about two days before his death when his son had to lift him from his chair and carry him to his bed. When he died his courage never faltered and his nerve was unshaken. Mr. Stillman was born in 1836 in Onandaga county, New York, and it was in New York state that he married Etta Westfall before moving to Michigan. He ?? for two and a ?? … ?? York infantry and spending many months amid the awfulness of confederate ?? Libby, Salisbury and Bell Isle. His life in Michigan has been that of a farmer, well known and respected in his community. His wife preceded him in death a number of years ago, and he leaves five children, Mrs. John Lee of Ionia, Ernest Livingston, now in the West, Floyd Livingston, of Shiloh, and Mrs. Vern Judevine, of Palo. Funeral services for Mr. Livingston will be held from the house Saturday at 1:00 o’clock, and interment will be in Palo cemetery.
