Locke, died early Sunday morning in St. Mary’s hospital, Grand Rapids, the second child of the family to pass away within a little more than two weeks. Pneumonia complications following influenza was given as the cause of death. The day following the funeral for Margery Ann Locke, aged five, for whom services were held May 8, Neva Elaine, who had been also critically sick, was taken to Grand Rapids, and the fight to save her life waged with all the weapons against disease that modern medical science wields. Oxygen was administered during all of the time, and it was noted that the child clung to life with more than ordinary tenacity. There ensued the long agonizing period of watching and waiting while apparent changes for the better in the child’s condition held out hope of ultimate recovery, to be succeeded by sudden changes for the worse which brought fear of impending death. About midnight Saturday night a sudden and unusual rise in temperature was noted and within a short time the feeble spark of life, which at times had brightened encouragingly, flickered and went out. Following as it did the untoward death of their first-born, Margery Ann, the fatal termination of the second child’s illness, saddened the community, and the sympathy of all went out Monday to Mr. and Mrs. Locke, who returned to their home here from their ceaseless vigil at the bedside in Grand Rapids. Funeral services for Neva Elaine will be conducted from their residence, 404 Rich street, Tuesday afternoon at 3o’clock, with Rev. W. F. Kendrick, of the First Methodist Episcopal church officiating. Interment will be temporarily in the Highland Park mausoleum, where Margery Ann is also entombed.
