Locke, 82, of 3930 South Stage road, Ionia, died early Friday morning at his home following an extended illness. He was a former resident of rural Hubbardston. Born in Clinton county August 4, 1891, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. David G. Locke. August 18, 1915, he was married to Ona Mercer and lived on a farm in Bloomer township, Montcalm county from 1916 to 1970. They then moved to the present address. He was a former teacher in the Gratiot area schools and at one time was a brush company manager at Bay City and Lapeer. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Carson City and the oldest living past master of that lodge. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Locke, six weeks ago. Surviving are his wife, Ona; daughter, Mrs. Margaret Rinckey of Ionia; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Harold A. Locke of Lansing and John R. of Pontiac. Funeral services were held Monday at 1:30 p.m. at Myers-Roetman Funeral Home in Ionia, Rev. Harold Homer of the Portland Methodist Church and formerly of the Hubbardston Methodist Church officiated. Interment was in North Plains cemetery.
