He died at 2 o’clock this afternoon, but the news did not reach here until 3:30 by a telephone message to W. H. Burletson from Jas. A. Latta. A letter received this morning, dated Oct. 6, which must have been delayed in transmission, said that Dr. Logan “had undergone operation, had rallied from shock, was resting comfortably, and doing as well as could be expected.” At 11:15 this morning Mr. Burletson received a dispatch saying: “Dr. Logan dying. Inform Mrs. Logan. Come at once.” Mrs. Logan was able to catch the 11:40 train, but could not reach Detroit in time to see her husband alive. By request of Mr. Burletson, Mr. Latta went to the hospital, and from him came the final news announcing the death. Mr. Burletson left for Detroit on the four o’clock train, and will probably return with remains tomorrow. Deceased has been a resident of Ionia since the period before the war. He was in trade here for a few years, and then took a thorough medical course embracing lectures in several leading European medical colleges, from which he received degrees. He returned here, and has been prominent among the local medical practitioners. His long residence here and prominence made him widely known, and he held the general respect of the community. He leaves a wife, whom he married here, and who was the daughter of a prominent pioneer, Nathaniel Beattie; but no children.
