All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/mi/mifiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Marilyn Ransom mlnransom@chartermi.net August 15, 2011, 6:23 pm The Ionia Daily Sentinel-Standard, Saturday, September 1, 1951 Mrs. Katie Lombard, 82, widow of Harry Lombard of Ionia, died at the Marsh Nursing home at Manitou Beach, Lenawee county, Friday at 6:30 p.m. after being ill for six weeks. She had been a patient there for 15 months. She was born Aug. 24, 1868, daughter of Dr. A. K. and Anna Jenkins, in Moscow, Hillsdale county. She married Harry Lombard Nov. 18, 1886, and they moved to Ionia in 1917 here he established the Lombard Coal company, predecessor of the Barker Coal company. He owned the company until his death Dec. 5, 1939. His son, Darr, who was associated in the business with him for many years operated the business until a few years before his death when he sold the business to Don Barker. Darr died Dec. 4, 1950. Mrs. Lombard was a member of the First Methodist church and was past matron of Queen Esther chapter, O.E.S. Surviving are three sons, Charles of Minneapolis, Minn., Nile of Detroit and Col. Cecil Lombard of Wright Field, Dayton, O.; four grandchildren, 2nd Lt. Harry Lombard who graduated from West Point in June, 1951; and Cameron, Mrs. Robert Leonhard and Carol Lombard, all of Detroit; and two great- grandchildren, Steven Lombard Johnson of Dallas, Texas, and Douglas Leonhard of Detroit. Another grandson, Capt. John Lombard, of Ionia was killed during World War II in China. Funeral services will be conducted at the Boynton funeral home Tuesday, Sept. 4, at 2 p.m. with Dr. Howard A. Smith officiating. Interment will be in Orleans cemetery. Queen Esther chapter, O.E.S. will have charge of the committal services.
