He was born Aug. 14, 1919, in Inez, Ky., the son of William and Aggie Montgomery Long. He attended school in Kentucky. He married Lorett Bailey Aug. 30, 1981. He was employed by E. W. Bliss Manufacturing in Hastings for 22 years. He moved to Stockbridge in 1931, to Hastings in 1948,and to Lake Odessa in 1978. Surviving are his wife; one daughter, Rotha Carol Murphy of Nashville; three sons, Carmon Long of Delton, Rick Long of Hastings, and Smith Long of Nashville; two brothers, Cledys Long of Jackson and Hobert Long of Stockbridge; five sisters, Delma Carpenter of Stockbridge, Ima Dysert, Elma Kiss, Fredra Kiss, Carmelita Polger, all of Jackson; 10 grandchildren. Preceding him in death were one grandchild, Danny Rishel, one sister, Audrey, three brothers, Weldon, Willis and Wilfred. Funeral services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Koops Funeral Home in Lake Odessa, the Rev. Lester DeGroot officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Memorial Park. A Homer Long Memorial Fund has been established, in care of the funeral home.
