Ionia Sentinel, 1999

John F. Longe, 85, of Racine, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 15, 1999 at 
Lincoln Village Convalescent Center.  John was born in Ionia on March 24, 1914, 
the son of the late W. Fred and Gertrude (Nee: Gemuend) Longe.  John attended 
Michigan State University and was a graduate of the Seibel Institute of 
Technology, Chicago.

On May 20, 1939, he was united in marriage to Mary Elizabeth McCann, who 
preceded him in death, May 23, 1989.

John retired as president of Rickel Malting Company, Detroit.  In 1978 he moved 
to Ft. Myers, Fla and resided there, active in his church until May of 1999.  
He then moved to Racine to be with his family.  John was a member of Masters 
Brewers Association of America and the Elks Lodge #548, Ionia.

Survivors include his three children, Karen M. Longe of Lake Bluff, Il., James 
F. (Marcia M) Longe of Racine, Mary E. Longe of Deerfield, Ill; his two 
grandchildren, Monica Louise Longe of Racine, Alex Longe Frederick of 
Deerfield; his sister, Mary Catherine Greening of Warren; niece, nephews, other 
relatives and dear friends.

A Memorial Mass will be held at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ionia, 
Saturday, September 18, 1999 at 11 a.m.  Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet 
Catholic Cemetery, Ionia.  Relatives and friends may meet with the family at 
the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of Mass.  Memorials to Saints 
Peter and Paul Catholic Church have been suggested by the family.
