Earl L. Longwell, 80 of 469 King died Monday at noon at Michigan Veterans
facility hospital at Grand Rapids.  He had been a patient there the past 22
months.  Born in Montcalm county, August 19, 1893, he was the son of Roy and
Emma Decker Longwell and lived his early life on the family farm in Montcalm
County.

December 17, 1930 he was married to Hazel Wise at the IH mission in Ionia and
they made their home here since.  He was employed at Ionia state hospital a
short time and had worked at Stevenson’s department store 20 years.  Until
retirement in 1959 he worked at Ionia Manufacturing company.  He was a member of
First Christian church and the Girard-Horrocks post of American Legion.

Surviving are his wife, Hazel; daughter, Mrs. Helen Martin of route 2, Belding
and eight grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. William Brabb of Grand Rapids, Mrs.
Ernest Green of Adrian, Mrs. Charles Davis of Hastings and Mrs. Ruth Gainor of
Lavonia.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Leddick funeral home.  Rev. Roger
Gifford of First Christian church will officiate and interment will be at Easton
cemetery.  Family will be at the funeral home Tuesday and Wednesday from 7 to 9
p.m.
