Loomis died Wednesday. He has been in poor health for three or four years, and very bad off for about a year. For some weeks his condition has been critical, and his death has been expected at any time. As reported, it is a case of blood poisoning, with the local trouble in one foot, where gangrene set in. His suffering has been terrible, and death comes as a relief. Mr. Loomis came here from Livingston county, New York, a short time before the war, in ’59 or ’60, and settled on the farm in Berlin, two miles south of this city, where he died. He has always been prominent in local social and political affairs – has held several township offices, and was register of deeds four years in the ‘70s. He was greatly esteemed by a wide circle of friends, for his genial disposition, his intelligence, and his strict probity of character. His wife died many years ago. He leaves three sons, Jessie, asst. bank cashier at Cheyenne, Maj. Arthur P., now deputy land commissioner, and formerly private secretary to Gov. Rich, and Mortimer, who also held the position of private secretary to the governor of South Dakota. The funeral was held at residence on Friday at 1:30 p.m.; services by Rev. Dr. Oxtoby.
