May 3, 1962 John R. Loomis, 62 died Unexpectedly John R. Loomis, 62, serving his second term as Ionia County drain Commissioner passed away unexpectedly last Tuesday afternoon. He was found near the rear of his home by Howard Sprague as he had been loading corn into a truck belonging to Sprague on the Loomis farm on David Highway. Coroner Dale Kauffman said death occurred about five o'clock and was attributed to a heart attack. State Police and Sheriff Peter Van Vleck were called to the Loomis farm. His family were prominent residents of Berlin township and he had planned to seek re-election to his office. Besides being drain commissioner, hew was a director of the Federal Land Bank and a member of the American Legion and Elks Lodge of Ionia. Funeral services were held on Friday at 1:30 at the LeValley church with burial in the Balcom cemetery. Surviving are a sister Frances Loomis of Washington, D.C.
