Ionia Sentinel Standard- November 1959

JOSEPH R. LOPER
Joseph R. Loper, 82, Muir, died at 6 p.m. Friday at the Ionia County Memorial 
hospital. He had been ill about two weeks.

He was born at Rigs in Lenawee county, August 21, 1877, the son of Mr ad Mrs 
Charles Loper.

He was married to Myrtle Hancock in 1897. They celebrated their 62nd wedding 
anniversary March 31.

Mr. Loper resided in Muir 32 years and was janitor of the Muir school about 
21 years and until his retirement.

He was a member of the First Christian church of Muir.

Surviving besides his wife, Myrtle, are three daughters, Mrs Victor (Helen) 
Cottrell of Ionia, Mrs Ed (Lula) Lewis of Muir, and Mrs Gordon (Marvel) Gage 
of Oscoda; three sons Leonard, Charles ad Marvin Loper of Belding; 16 
grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs Francis (Louise) 
Blodgett of Ionia and one brother Marvin Loper of Fenwick.

Funeral arrangements are being made by the Shaw-Rivett funeral home at Muir 
and will be announced later.
