After a very long and painful sickness, Levi W. Loveland departed this life, at his home on East Main St., Ionia, May 31. He had been a great sufferer for a long time, but we know that he could say at last: “Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for Thou art with me.” Levi W. Loveland was born in Ionia, March 25, 1863. His whole life was spent here, excepting a few years he lived in Belding. He leaves a wife and one sister to mourn his demise. The funeral was held at his home on Friday, June 4. Rev. Dr. Lewis of the M. E. church preached the funeral sermon, and Mrs. Todd and Mrs. Benedict sang very sweetly. There was an abundance of flowers, and the house was filled with mourning friends. The bearers were: Lyman Harwood, M. Horrigan, H. J. Horrigan, E. A. Horrigan, C. T. Williams and Leavit Harwood. He was laid to rest in Highland Park. “There he laid his burden down and changed his cross into a crown.” Those who were here from out of town to attend the funeral were: E. A. Horrigan of Davenport, Iowa; Mr. Green and Mr. Upson of Belding; Mr. and Mrs. C. T. Williams of Grand rapids.
