Lovell of Ionia died at the Central hotel in Stanton last Friday at 3 p.m. He was at Stanton to attend to some real estate business and was seemingly in good health. He ate a hearty dinner at the hotel and, after attending to some business at the court house, immediately afterwards made the remark that he was not felling good and went back to the hotel. He lay down on a bed. Dr. Bachman was at once summoned, but the judge was past help and expired within fifteen minutes. Apoplexy was the cause. He was a well preserved man 77 years of age. He moved to Ionia in 1841 with his father’s family and has since resided in that city. Here he was admitted to the bar and commenced to practice his profession. Under the Taylor- Fillmore administration he was register of the United States land office at Ionia and in 1857 he was elected judge of the eighth judicial circuit and served for three terms. He was candidate for re-election in 1881, but was defeated. He was well known in Montcalm county over whose circuit court he presided so many years and was held in high respect.
