Oct. 11, 1907 DEATH OF HEMAN LOWE At his Home in Washington, D.C., Tuesday Night A dispatch received here Wed. morning announced the death of Heman Lowe, in Washington, Tuesday night. Later, Mr. Smith talked over the phone with the friends, learning that the funeral would be held in Washington, on Friday, the burial also taking place there, Mrs. L.D. Smith, mother and K.R. Smith, brother of Mrs. Lowe, left same evening for Washington. Heman Lowe was for several years a resident of Ionia, entering business as a partner of A.B. Culver, as dealer in books and stationery. Subsequently he was a partner of M.L. Smith and then K.R. Smith, in the same line. During Geo. W. Webber’s term in congress, ending 35 years ago Mr. Lowe was appointed a clerk in the pension bureau, a position which he held from that time until incapacitated by illness, being engaged part of the time in the office and part of the time in field. He had a most amiable and engaging personality, and had the friendship of all who knew him. While a resident here he was married to Miss Josephine, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L.D. Smith, who survives and also a daughter, Mrs. Blanche Selley of Washington. Mr. Lowe was not of strong physique, and of late years he has been in feeble health. For past one and a half years his condition has been critical; it was thought he was at death’s door a year ago, but he rallied, although he has been confined to the house since that time.
