Wayne A. Lowell, 71, of Saranac died Saturday, Jan. 4, 1997 at his residence. 
He was born June 9, 1925, the son of Earl (Elsie Vaneck) Smith.  He was a
veteran of World War II, serving in the Marines as a Marine Raider.  He retired
from Oliver Machinery in Grand Rapids in 1982.  As a wood worker he was known
throughout the state.  He was a member of Galilee Baptist Church in Saranac and
also a deacon.  He married Norma Towner May 5, 1962 in Grand Rapids.

He is survived by his wife, Norma; two special daughters; and his special
grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Galilee Baptist Church
with Rev. James Frank officiating.  Interment will be at Pinckney Cemetery. 
Visitation will be Monday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at
the Lake Funeral Home in Saranac.  Memorial contributions may be made to Helping
Hands Hospice or the Galilee Baptist Church.
