Well known Ionia are farmer, Arthur A. Lower, 72, Stage road died suddenly 
Tuesday afternoon at Ionia County memorial hospital of an apparent heart 
attack suffered at his home.  He was born in Campus, Illinois February 3, 1897 
the son of Leon and Hannah Morris Lower.  He attended school in Dwight, 
Illinois and after school worked for his father on the farm and in one of the 
first new car agencies in that area. 

He was married August 21, 1918 to Catherine Brennan at Sacred Heart church in 
Campus, Ill.  They moved to Michigan in 1921 and lived on a farm on Stage road 
north of their present residence.  He operated a small garage at his residence 
and for a time was a partner in a new car business with Bert Martin in Ionia.  
Prior to World War II he owned and operated a new car business in Ionia.  From 
that time until retirement he devoted his life to farming.  He was a member of 
SS Peter and Paul church in Ionia and the Father Fierle council and Knight of 
Columbus.

Surviving are his wife, Catherine; five sons Johns of Pico Rivera, California, 
and Donald, Gaylord, Robert and Phillip all of Ionia; one brother James Lower 
of Ionia; one sister, Mrs. Donald Clover of Muir; 18 grandchildren and one 
great grandson.

Knights of Columbus rosary will be recited Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Boynton-
Leddick funeral home.  Parish rosary will be recited Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at 
the funeral home.  Funeral services will be at SS Peter and Paul Catholic 
church Friday at 10 a.m.  Interment will be at Mt. Olivet cemetery.
