Abram P. Lowrey, best known as "Pratt" Lowrey, died at his home in Berlin Township, on Tuesday morning August 16th, 1904., after a short illness, caused by a complication of diseases from which he has not been well for a long time, but over which but little concern had been felt. The funeral occurred from the M.E.Church in Berlin Center on Thursday forenoon. Rev. N W. Weston delivering the sermon, and the funeral being in charge of Director Weed of this village. The remains were brought to this village and interred in Lakeside cemetery, being followed to their last resting place by a great number of relatives and friends, there being 52 rigs to follow the remains from the home to the church, and at the church there was an assemblage of one of the largest crowds ever attending a funeral in that township. The funeral was under the charge of the Odd Fellow loge of Saranac, he being a member there, and most of his lodge brothers were in attendance. The Woodmen lodge of Saranac, of which he was a member, also sent an escort of about thirty people with the remains of their brother from the home to the grave. Mr.Lowrey was born in Berlin township October 19th 188, his parents being Mr and Mrs Norton and Mary Lowrey, well known pioneers of this section. His father died several years ago, while the mother remains to mourn with the rest of the family the departure of this near and dear one. Mr.Lowrey was married to Miss Emma McCoy n Feb. 29th 1886, Rev. Wm. Davenport of Saranac, officiating. to this union was born one son, Charles Norton, born Dec.4, 1886, who is left to mourn with his mother for the kind and devoted father and husband gone on before. With the exception of a brief residence in this village, and later in Saranac, Mr.Lowrey was lived on the old homestead, one and a half miles south and west of Berlin Center, all his life. Besides a host of friends, as was manifest at the funeral, he leaves a mother, a widow, son, two brothers and seven sisters to mourn their loss. Mr.Lowrey had a wide acquaintance, having bought and sold all kinds of stock all over all of this part of Ionia county. He was known as an upright and honest sort of fellow, bound to win in the world, but win honestly and fairly. He was possessed with the true Lowrey disposition of thrift and aggressiveness, and had laid the foundation of a considerable fortune. He had a good farm and a big one, and things have been playing nicely in his hands of late, but now all is at an end, however his little family are well provided for.
