Lozo had apparently fallen asleep while fishing or had become asphyxiated and fallen into the hole in his fish shanty. Clarence Martin, local barber, had driven Lozo to Tower lake about 11 o’clock Sunday morning. Martin had left him there and proceeded to his own shanty on a neighboring Lake. Karen Mason, who was also fishing in a house near Lozo’s, was the first to discover the tragedy when he walked past Lozo’s house on his way to his minnow box on the edge of the lake. In passing, he hollered to Lozo, but received no answer. On his way back Mason thought this was rather odd because it was Lozo’s habit to yell back. Mason forced open the door and noticed that the chair was over the hole, his spear in the corner and Lozo’s hat was floating on the water. And oil stove was burning in the hut and officer stated that the temperature was suffocating hot inside. Kent county officers were immediately called and although they partially located the body they could not retrieve it until Monday morning. Officers believed that he was dead before he hit the water and no inquest was held. Lozo is survived by the widow and two children, Guy, Jr., 13, and Helen 10. His mother, Mrs. Ada Lozo, of Belding and Mrs. Erell Gallager of Traverse City also survive. Funeral services will be held at the Fitzjohn funeral home today at 2:30 and Rev. J.A. Hudnutt will officiate. Burial will be held in the mausoleum. In the spring the body will be laid to rest in River Ridge cemetery.
