Luce, 85, of 823 Cross St., Portland, died Jan. 23. He was born on Feb. 19, 1904 in Palo to Cornelious and Rosella (Grinnels) Luce. He is survived by four sons, D.H. Luce of Trenton, Fla., C.G. Luce of Scottville, L.Y. Luce of Branch, and R.B. Luce of Galvin, Wash.; six daughters, Ireta Brownell of Ionia, Irene Morse of Lansing, Mona Walker of Lake Odessa and Annette McCaul, Joyce Wells and Darlene MacPhee of Portland; 53 grandchildren, 65 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Myrtie Jenks of Ionia and Hazel Meesina of Lansing. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy in 1981 and one daughter, Mildred Parsons in 1986. He was a retired electrical lineman for Tri Co. Electric. His family will receive friends on Thursday at 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. with an 8 p.m. rosary. Mass of the Christian burial is Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church in Portland with the Rev. Richard VanLente officiating. Burial is at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Contributions may be left at Neller Funeral Home for playground equipment for Westwood Elementary in Portland. Pallbearers are George Brownell, Doug Willimin, Charles McCaul, Bill Walker and Craig MacPhee. Honorary pallbearers are Joseph, Allen, Dee Luce and Daniel Parson.
