Ludwick, formerly of Muir, died November 15 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ray A. Peterman at Crystal. He was 89 years and 11 months of age. Funeral services will be attended Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Muir Church of Christ of which he was a member. Officiating will be Dr. Paul L. Stewart of Ursa, Ill. Burial will be in East Plains Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the Church of Christ in Muir from one o’clock until the hour of the service. Pall bearers are Norman Knickerbocker, Louis Fletcher, James Ludwick, William McCandless, Arthur Cochrane and Ralph B. Peterman. Mr. Ludwick was the son of Matilda and Jacob Ludwick, pioneer settlers of Ionia County. They immigrated into Michigan from Huron County, Ohio in 1855 and settled in North Plains Township. To them were born eight children, John, Sarah, Lidia, Francis, James, Emeline, Mary and Charles. The death of James takes the last descendant of that generation. When the Ludwick family settled here the country was wild. Deer, bear, turkeys and pigeons roamed the woods, while Indians hunted and trapped along Maple River. Their journey from Ohio to their new home was made by covered wagon and took 14 days. The timber was all beech and maple. There were no clearings. The first task was to build a log house. That was long before there were any roads in this section. In 1897 James purchased the old homestead from his father and lived there and farmed it for a number of years before moving to Muir. In May, 187, James B. Ludwick was untied in marriage with Lillian R. Crandell. To them three children were born, the Rev. Claud Ludwick of Flat Rock, Ohio, William O., now deceased and Mrs. Iva M. Peterman of Crystal. Mrs. Ludwick died December 21, 1924. In 1928 he married Cornelia Cochrane whose death occurred December 27, 1942. Since then he has made his home with his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Peterman, at Muskegon and Crystal. Surviving him besides the son and daughter are four grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
