Ludwick died Sunday night as the result of burns sustained Saturday morning when her clothing caught fire as the result, it is thought, of the explosion of a wood stove. She had not been feeling well and her daughter, Mrs. Homer Fletcher, had spent the previous night with her, and she and Mr. Ludwick went to her rescue at once and removed the burning clothing as quickly as possible, but not until very serious burns had been sustained, which it was feared from the first might prove fatal. The sad news was at once dispatched to her son, Rev. Claude Ludwick at Wren, O. The unfortunate woman belongs to a pioneer Lyons township family, and she with her husband and children moved to Muir some years ago, Mr. Ludwick having kept the west end store for a time. Of late years the couple have been living in a home of their own in the eastern part of the village in a quiet way, made necessary by increasing years and many friends who were shocked to learn of this affliction. Mrs. Ludwick lingered until Sunday evening when death relieved her sufferings. The funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon at the Church of Christ, and burial will be made in East Plains cemetery. Mrs. Ludwick had been always prominent in the church and welfare work of the community and was a member of the Church of Christ. She is survived by her husband, James Ludwick, a son, Rev. Claude Ludwick, of Ohio, and a daughter, Mrs. Homer Fletcher, also three brothers, Hiram, of Ionia, Giles of Grand Rapids, and William of Muir. This makes the second tragic death for Mrs. Fletcher to suffer under in a very short time. It was only a few weeks ago that her son Frank was struck by an automobile dying a few hours later. The death of her mother makes the third death occurring in her family within many months, for besides the death of her son and mother an uncle, Charles Crandell, died in Grand Rapids a few weeks ago.
