February 9, 1912 WARREN E. LUDWIG DIED AT PORTLAND SUCCESSFUL BUSINESS MAN PROMINENT CITIZEN. WELL KNOWN HERE Funeral Services And Burial Here Saturday, M.E. Church. Leaves Wife And Four Children Mr. Michael Sweitzer brought us the death of their son-in-law Mr. Warren E.Ludwig of Portland early yesterday morning. Mr and Mrs Sweitzer were called there Monday morning on account f the critical condition of Mr Ludwig and they with the family and physicians realized that the end was not far off. Mr. Ludwig has been in declining health for several years back mostly form stomach trouble, due largely to too close confinement and overwork, but for a while was on the gain until recently when all at once his case become more aggravated. At the time he and Mrs Ludwig were on a visit at their son's Bernie Ludwig at Albion. He first went to Battle Creek and then to Ann Arbor but all to no avail, and he must needs return home only to soon pass away. The Ludwig family lived here for quite a number of years owning the property where Mr. Geo.Fletcher now lives and moved to Portland about eleven or twelve years ago to go into the mercantile business on the department store plan under the firm name of W.E. Ludwig & Sons. About three years ago he was forced to retire from business on account of poor health. Both here and Portland the family have made host of friends who all will unite in extending to the family sincere sympathy. As mentioned above Mrs. Ludwig is a daughter of Mr and Mrs. M. Sweitzer here. Other members of the family are Bernie E, Tressie, now Mrs.Harry Robinson of Portland, Claude C. and Harland, Claude succeeding his father. The remains are to be brought here Saturday forenoon on the 9:23 train for funeral service at the M.E.Church and internment in Lakeside cemetery. Rev. Mourer will preach the funeral sermon.
