Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., today from the home for William Luscher, 81 and long-time resident of Sebewa, who died shortly after noon Tuesday from a heart attack. Rev. John H. Stewart conducted the services with burial in Highland Park cemetery in Ionia. The deceased has not been in ill health. He ate dinner as usual with his son and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Warren Luscher, with whom he has lived six years. After dinner Mrs. Luscher came into his room to read to him as was her custom. She had just left the room when she heard his labored breathing. He succumbed a minute or two later. Mr. Luscher was born in Cleveland but came to Sebewa township when he was two years old. His parents had come to the United States from Switzerland. After their death he lived with his brother, Jacob, on the farm now occupied by John York. When he was 21 he purchased the farm where he has since lived. At that time it was an uncleared wilderness. He often has told how he had to bring supplies in by train and wagon from Detroit. About 12 years ago he suffered the loss of one eye when an object from a passing truck struck the windshield of the car he was driving. A short time later he had to have his second eye removed. Mr. Luscher was married three times – to Nettie Thorp of Sebewa, Elizabeth Seig of Ionia and Anna Balderson of Portland. His third wife died eight years ago. Mr. Luscher was a former member of the Odd Fellow organization and had held several township offices. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. I. J. Macintosh of Detroit; three sons, Warren of Sebewa, George of Grand Rapids and Harry of Lansing. A second daughter, Carrie, died several years ago.
