Luther, 89, died early Monday morning February 9 at the Clark Memorial Home in Grand Rapids where she had been a resident for 11 years. She was the widow of the Rev. Alexander T. Luther. She was born in Ronald township April 11, 1863, the daughter of Oscar and Mary Ackles Talcott. She was a graduate of one of Ionia high school’s earliest classes. She was married July 25, 1883 in Ionia. The Rev. Luther was a Methodist minister and had charges in Lowell, North Lansing, St. Louis, Maple Rapids. Ovid, Holland, Lake Odessa, Grand Rapids and Paw Paw. After his retirement they first moved to New Rochelle, Ill., and then returned to Ionia. They built a home at 127 West Lytle street which she owned at the time of her death. They spent several winters in Florida and traveled extensively until his death in 1942. Mrs. Luther was a member of the First Methodist church of Grand Rapids at the time of her death. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Benjamin F. Carter of Lake Odessa and Mrs. Howard C. Lawrence of Grand Rapids; two sons, the Rev. Edward T. Luther of Portland, Oregon and Dr. Earl O. Luther of Rockford, Ill.; 18 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren. Another son, Olin C. Luther, was killed overseas in World War I. Funeral services will be conducted at Clark Memorial Home chapel Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. Interment will be in Lakeside cemetery, Lake Odessa.
